Friday, July 8, 2022 7:23:32 PM America/Los_Angeles

We were among the people who put off doing our Christmas shopping before becoming mothers. If we had been significantly behind, it would have been an adventure. It was a carefree experience. Admittedly, back then, we weren't exactly excited to deal with the packed stores or jostle for the last pair of boots.

But after we had children, buying Christmas presents was a major job. We looked for the ideal gift for hours to get the best Christmas present for females. Most of the time, our presents were prepared and wrapped before December ever arrived.

What's the big deal?

You're surely aware of the strain on parents to find the newest items available. On the other hand, you don't want to spoil the kids. On the other hand, you want to guarantee that their expectations are met by your gifts.

Additionally, just witnessing their joy as they unwrap their presents is beautiful in and of itself.

We, therefore, decided to share the must-have gift list for females earlier this year to spread the Christmas spirit. The list includes both items we've been looking at online and things our girls want. We've done our best to cover everything to make things easier.

Let's have a look, then.

Although dining out with your family is a wonderful way to spend time together, this habit can become quite expensive very quickly! To do this, hosting a game night is a time-honored method that enables you to keep your children engaged and turn it into a teaching opportunity. Game night is much more fun when you play classic games like Pictionary, charades, dominoes, and spades!

Teach your children to bake by spending time in the kitchen with them. Use straightforward recipes, such as chocolate chip muffins or raspberry and pistachio tea cakes, to inspire your kids to enjoy the culinary arts. To encourage their creativity, you can also give your kids some basic biscuit dough to make some silly number and letter shapes as well as colorful icing pens.

Want to sate your sweet desire without having to worry about consuming too much sugar but aren't in the mood to bake? Check out the kid-approved, sugar-free, low-carbohydrate cookies from Bett3r Keto. You can prepare these low-carb, sugar-free meals at home as well.

Plan a family vacation that includes time in nature. You can still set up camp in your backyard even if you can't travel to the woods. If kids have never been outside, you can create a mock tent in your yard out of chairs and blankets to help them grasp the experience. Don't forget to pack some marshmallows and equipment for starting a campfire so that your kids can have delectable s'mores during their camping trip!

Get ready for your children's fondue party. They might find this idea intriguing, and the thought of dipping food in cheese or chocolate before eating it might be very alluring. Purchase a top-notch fondue kit first, assist your children in preparing the dipping foods and sauce, and then make sure they have a blast!

The ideal indoor activity is playing with homemade play-dough. It's one of a lot of kids' favorite things to do. While this exercise might become messy, it helps develop motor skills, sharpens pre-writing abilities, encourages imagination and creativity, and heightens knowledge and curiosity! Additionally, kneading, stretching, flattening, and crushing clay is very soothing.

Many parents believe they have no choice but to purchase ready-made toys from a store when it comes to buying toys for their children. But this couldn't be further from the truth. Children are a wellspring of creativity and vitality. Help your children create their toys with these materials. To assist parents who are unsure of where to begin, communities like Babble Dabble Do produce educational blogs like "40 of the Best DIY Toys to Make with Kids."

Use some of the fun activities described above to keep your kids engaged and improve their learning skills if you are used to having your kids at home and are wondering what you can do to keep them entertained and out of trouble. Create a daily calendar that will help you retain discipline with your younger ones and assist them in leading a better, balanced lifestyle to keep a check and balance on the amount of time they spend on each activity in a day.

Let's make a lace gift decoration

Tuesday, July 5, 2022 7:21:01 PM America/Los_Angeles

Give your next unique present a creative and truly eye-catching touch. This little macramé mandala gift topper doubles as a present. Any plain-wrapped gift gets a delightfully gorgeous boho touch thanks to your small macrame art, which we'll show you how to do below. Additionally, it may be stored and put in a vehicle or on a wall.

For Mother's Day, bohemian birthdays, bridal showers, weddings, or any other noteworthy occasion, make sure your presentation goes above and beyond. Exclusively for Wrappily, fiber artist Rachel Breuklander of The Lark's Head Shop designed this gift topper instruction and special DIY craft kit. In the video lesson and step-by-step directions below, she walks us through making two different varieties of macramé gift toppers.

Join Rachel in her crafting by seeing the complete video lessons for Style 1—Simple Macrame Mandala Topper for Beginners—and Style 2—Clove Hitch Style (Intermediate) Macramé Gift Toppers on our YouTube channel.

Prepare Your Materials

Materials for Making a Macrame Gift Topper are Available in a Kit

List of supplies

Wooden ring measuring tool, scissors, comb 2mm single twist twine, 5mm single twist macramé cord

For a limited time, you can get the complete DIY Macramé Gift Topper Kit in the mustard color (as shown) in the store, saving yourself the trip to the craft store. Three little mandala toppers may be made using the materials in this eco-friendly kit, but scissors or a measuring device are not included.

Kit for Making a Macrame Gift Topper - Products

She continues. Sustainability is a priority for Rachel in all of her creations, including these gift topper kits. The given string, which I also sell in my online store, is made entirely of recycled cotton from the apparel industry, preventing waste from going to landfills. The rings were purchased from a small US-based company and are constructed of birch wood. The combs included in the kits are entirely biodegradable and may be used for a variety of different projects since they are made of maize husk rather than plastic. You may reuse the drawstring bag!

A pair of macrame gift toppers

(Easy) straightforward macramé mandala topper

Depending on your degree of expertise or a unique style, there are methods to modify this craft. Both of the styles Rachel has provided for us to attempt to begin with the same steps. Make this quicker-to-assemble, easier version as you go by following the directions; it's a good spot for novices to start.

Finished: Simple Macrame Gift Topper

"My favorite aspect of macramé is how simple it is to learn; if you can tie your shoes, you can learn macramé," remarks Rachel. You can do practically anything after learning two or three different knots. Usually, even the most complex patterns only have three primary knots.

First, measure and cut the cords.

The lengths of the 5mm cordage should be precut into 12–16 inches based on the size of your wooden ring. You'll need these things if you're using our macramé gift topper kit:

12 lengths of 12"-16" long macrame cord should be used for the 1.75" tiny hoop.

For the medium, 15 pieces of the medium hoop, 2.25"

The 3" big hoop requires 19 parts.

Step 2: Cordage Stands Cover the Hoop

How to Tie a Lark's Head Knot in Macrame

Each length of rope should be tied to the wooden ring using a lark's head knot. Continue until you have covered the whole wooden ring.

Larks' Head Knot to Cover Hoop in Cords

The third step is rough trimming.

Trim the loose ends of your completely coated wooden ring in a circular pattern, eyeballing a length of around 1-2" depending on your liking. For more shag or a broader gift topper, wait longer.

4. Brush the fringe.

Brush cordage into a fluffy fringe with a comb.

Step 5: Finish Trimming

To balance them out and form a neat circle, trim the ends one more time.

Making a Simple Macrame Topper: Steps 3, 4, and 5

Measure and cut a length of 2 mm twine long enough to wrap around your present plus an additional ten inches. One inch of the twine's tail should be folded. To link the string to the hoop on your mandala, carefully scooch between the cordage and tie a lark's head knot. Attach the present in step six.

Place the topper on your box that has been wrapped, and then completely wrap the present, coming up the other side.

gift with a macrame project attached

Run the twine's free end over the hoop's top, through the middle, and out the other side. Cross the string over to the right, then re-thread it through the hoop, beginning this time at the bottom and producing a loop as you go up to the middle.

The twine's tail should be inserted through this loop and pulled tight. Trim the end flush with the cordage, then comb it into the fringe.

Eco-friendly wrapping paper by Flock Together is topped with a macramé gift topper.

To show my loved ones that I care about them and pay attention to their interests, I always feel both frightened and pleased when I give them presents, "Rachel says." Another way I demonstrate my concern is by paying additional attention to how my gift is packaged, making sure it precisely matches the event or their unique style.

(Intermediate) Macramé Clove Hitch Mandala

If you have a lot of confidence, try making this more complex mandala design. Adding more knots to your gift topper will make it look more complicated and interesting.

Macrame Gift Topper Style 2

Observe Steps 1 & 2 as described previously.

After measuring and cutting the cords, tie a lark's head knot to cover the hoop.

Style 2 Cover Hoop Lark's Head Knot Macrame Gift Topper

Start your lead string with a clove hitch knot in step three.

Lead String Macrame Gift Topper, Style 2.

For your "lead string," cut a second 5 mm rope to a length of 20 inches. Along the hoop's edge, attach the lead string, leaving 5" to the left and the remainder to the right.

Clove Hitch Knot, Style 2 Macrame Gift Topper

To begin, choose a cable and loop it around the lead string as shown in the image above. This creates a split clove hitch knot (or double half-hitch knot). To finish the clove hitch knot, tie one additional loop around the lead string.

forming a clove hitch knot.

Fourth step: a brief pause

Clove hitch knots should be tied around the lead string in a layer around the circumference of the ring, going from left to right. Now is the time to tie twine for hanging.

Halfway Point Attach Twine for Macrame Gift Topper Style 2

Your 2mm rope should be cut to a length that will completely be around your present, plus an additional ten inches. One inch of the twine's tail should be folded. To link the string to the wooden hoop on your mandala, carefully scooch between the cordage and tie a lark's head knot. Tuck the rope beneath the lead string after pulling to tighten.

Step 5: Finish the layer of clove hitch knots.

Clove Hitch Knots, Style 2 Macrame Gift Topper

To finish the remainder of the circle, keep making clove hitch knots around the lead string. Gather the remaining lead string lengths with the 2 mm twine at this stage and keep them apart from the ends of the other cordage.

Step 6: Finishing Touches

Approximately 1-inch-long strands of cordage with rough cuts. Fringe the ends using a comb. To balance them out and form a neat circle, trim the ends one more time.

Macrame Gift Topper in Style 2 with Trimmed Edges

Tie a final clove hitch knot and attach the gift.

Wrap Twine Macrame Gift Topper, Style 2.

Place the topper on your present box, face-up, and then completely around it with twine, coming up the other side.

Style 2 Macrame Gift Topper-Attach knot

Run the twine's free end over the hoop's top, through the middle, and out the other side. Cross the string over to the right, then re-thread it through the hoop, beginning this time at the bottom and producing a loop as you go up to the middle. The twine's tail should be inserted through this loop and pulled tight.

Style 2 of the Macrame Gift Topper-Finish Tying

Cross the lead strings over one another, then make another clove hitch knot with the twine below to secure your layer. The twine's tail should be inserted through this loop and pulled tight. Trim cordage ends straight, then comb them into the fringe.

Voila! You're All Set to Present Your Gift

Macrame Gift Topper in Style 2 with Cardinals Wrapping Paper

"The thrill of opening a present is half the joy of getting one. How much more fun is it to unwrap a present when you can see additional care was taken to wrap it?" inquires Rachel. One can tell right away that a present has been carefully picked and chosen with the same love and consideration as can be seen on the outside when they see it wrapped with care and topped with a handmade accent.

Rachel Breuklander, of The Lark's Head Shop, is the creator.

Regarding the Creator: Lark's Head Shop, Rachel Breuklander

Rachel is a contemporary textile artist based in Los Angeles, California. She began studying macramé in 2016 as a creative release and rapidly became enamored with the technique. This is now her only artistic endeavor. She enjoys going on hikes with her dog, Finn, camping, and reading at home when she's not tangled in a mass of thread in her studio. The greatest source of inspiration for her paintings is her love of nature.

Rachel enjoys teaching seminars and workshops, as well as offering online training and assistance to other aspiring macramé artists and lovers. Everybody has a creative side, and macramé is a great way to discover and cultivate that creativity, according to Rachel. She encourages her fellow artists to explore the world of fiber crafts by selling eco-friendly macramé materials, do-it-yourself kits, and craft supplies.

The Best Holiday Gift Wrap Collection

Tuesday, July 5, 2022 7:02:39 PM America/Los_Angeles

With the holidays quickly approaching, I would assume that every single one of you has all of your gifts chosen for everyone and placed under the tree properly wrapped, just like me. If you're anything like me, you'll agree that this time of year appears to be one of the busiest due to all the celebrations, family get-togethers, and customs that fill the calendar. Not that I would want anything different.

The thought of looking online for some wrap-spiration is thus the last thing on your mind (get it, wrapping-inspiration). And although I don't personally advocate hand-stamped 50 yards of paper being used to wrap each and every one of your gifts, I do like it when someone goes a little bit above the norm and adds a little bit of care and uniqueness to their gift wrapping. And all of the individuals, gifts, and concepts listed here have done just that. Despite the fact that some of them are pretty simple, we like them all and wish we had the chance to try them all this year. Instead, we made the decision to compile a few of our favorites under a few different headings. Each one provides a link to a tutorial or article that details the source, how to put it all together, and a shoppable item to help you achieve the look. Friends, happy Friday.

WHAT IS GROSGRAIN? FABRIC GUIDE, USES AND TYPES

Sunday, May 15, 2022 4:53:21 AM America/Los_Angeles

WHAT IS GROSGRAIN? IT- IS ALL ABOUT FABRIC
What is grosgrain, you ask? Grosgrain is a term that refers to stiff, heavy ribbons made from silk and nylon and woven with a Taffeta weave. This resulted in unique transverse and heavy weft ribs. Grosgrain is often referred to as a woven cord fabric because of its similarity to the fine cord. The cords are lighter than the faille but heavier than the poplin fabrics.

Grosgrain fabric is usually only available in black, and very rarely in other colors, except when it's made into grosgrain ribbons. It can then be made into grosgrain ribbons in a variety of flashy colors and patterns. Although it has a low luster, it isn't as flashy or extravagant as other fabrics, but it is strong and durable, and tightly woven.

WHAT IS GROSGRAIN? HISTORY
What is Grosgrain’s history? The term "Grosgrain" was derived from a Fresh loan word, and a folk corruption of the term "grogram", which was originally referred to as "gross gram" in 1562. This term refers to a loosely woven coarse fabric made of pure silk, silk, and wool, or silk and mohair.

"Grain" comes from an Old French word, "grain", which can refer to texture or seed, depending on context.

This fabric was used in women's clothing during the 16th century such as jackets and petticoats. Grosgrain fabric was a popular choice for silk and smooth-woven Wool, especially among the lower classes.

Women started to prefer grosgrain ribbons as trim in the 1920s. It was only used in black at this time.

Grosgrain ribbon gained popularity because it is available in a variety of colors and patterns, which is not the case with grosgrain fabric. These ribbons can then be used as ornaments and decorations for clothing articles. Grosgrain is popular for evening gowns, as it is less flashy but more sophisticated.

WHAT IS GROSGRAIN RIBBON?
What is Grosgrain Ribbon? Grosgrain Ribbon can be used in almost any type of fabric. It retains its ribbed look, is very sturdy, and has a matte finish that makes it less flashy. This fabric is better for bolder tastes than dull grosgrain.

Grosgrain ribbons can be used to enhance garments like polo shirts and underwear. It can be found on hems and lapel facings. These can improve the overall quality and aesthetics of garments.

WHAT ARE THE GROSGRAIN'S USES?
Grosgrain can be used in many ways:

STRUCTURAL USES
Grosgrain fabric can be used to attach semi-detached items like tops or skirts. You can also use ribbed grosgrain on reinforcements or gussets. Grosgrain ribbons can be used as accents, waistbands, and facings. Grosgrain ribbons can be used as waistband faces to save time and fabric. They are also great for bulky fabrics.

Evening Wear
Grosgrain fabric can also be used as a smart, practical, alternative to lustrous satin. It is often used on evening dresses, evening gowns, and dinner jackets. It emphasizes the hems and outer edges of the garment's collar as well as the lapel. This adds sophistication.

Grosgrain, unlike satin, is extremely durable and doesn't have the harsh glare that satin has. It has a matte finish. It can be used as an accessory such as bow ties and cummerbunds.

MILLINERY & HAT RIBBONS
Grosgrain is gaining popularity as a millinery material. It's a great option for making decorations on hats. Because of its high quality, this fabric is a favorite choice for men's top hats. It has been used in opera and top hats. Despite its scalloped edge being a disadvantage, the Petersham ribbon is rarely used. However, there have been exceptions like the Stetson Flagship fedora.

Grosgrain ribbons can also be used extensively by hat makers for edge binding and crow bow. Despite the decreasing supply of vintage grosgrain ribbons, the hat industry has not yet found a replacement that is as good or better than vintage cotton-rayon mix ribbons.

For example, modern polyester ribbons have colors that are not as elegant as old ribbons. This has led to a substantial price rise.

WHAT IS GROSGRAIN - OTHER USES
Grosgrain Fabric can be used for things other than clothing. Here are some more ways Grosgrain fabric can be used.

BOOKBINDING
Grosgrain fabric is also used to bind book spines together or sheaves. It can be an excellent tool for book restoration and binding.

CARGO AND PACKAGING
Grosgrain, with its curls and ability to secure parcels, is very popular in the cargo sector. Grosgrain ribbons can be used to wrap delicate items for shipment. Nylon grosgrain, on the other hand, is used to wrap fragile items for shipments.

HANDICRAFTS
Grosgrains made from low-cost synthetics such as polyester can be used for gift wrapping ribbons, ornaments, and decorations for scrapbooks, bookbinding, trimming, embellishing, and bead-making.

PERCUSSION
You can also use the polyester grosgrain to tie the snares together of a drum without slipping. It can be cut up to 5-8 inches in width. This allows the ends of the drum to be held closer to the head. It also dampens the buzz from the snares.

What is GROSGRAIN? How does it get made?
Grosgrain ribbons are not made with abecedarian weaving techniques. Instead, they go through a unique process called the "taffeta weave", which weaves thick and thin cords alternately. This technique gives them their distinctive thick woven edge, which is durable, strong, and versatile. It also has a thick weft that gives it its matte finish.

WHAT IS GROSGRAIN? - WHAT DIFFERENTIATES DOES IT HAVE FROM SATIN
What is Grosgrain and how does it differ from satin? Grosgrain has a similar look to satin and is why it is so popular. Both can be used for decorative and embellishment purposes, such as on sashes, embroidery, and garlands. There are some differences between the two:

Grosgrain is very fine if you look closely.
Grosgrain has a matte finish instead of satin or a glossy finish.
Grosgrain is woven using a taffeta weave. Satin is made with a single-faced weave.
Because of the way it is woven, Grosgrain is much more durable than satin.
Sometimes, the stain may need additional grosgrain to reinforce its reinforcement.
Grosgrain can be made from cotton, fiber blends, and polyester. Satin is usually made of nylon.
Grosgrain has thick horizontal fibers which make it easy to trim and edge.
It is resistant to damage, unlike satin. It can be folded, heat-sealed, and stitched and still look the same.
CONCLUSION: WHAT IS GROSGRAIN?
When asked what grosgrain is, the answer is that it's a versatile fabric that can be used for almost any purpose. Grosgrain can be used for all kinds of projects. These include fashion projects such as dressmaking, handicraft projects like bookbinding, and scrapbooking.

Grosgrain ribbons are still available in many colors, even though the color limit is very limited. For those who wish to personalize grosgrain ribbons, many companies will accept custom orders. Small and large businesses can use customized ribbons to package their products. It adds beauty and originality to the product.

The best thing about this is that it's very similar to satin but much stronger and more affordable. This fabric is a great choice for craft enthusiasts and practical designers who value quality but are limited on budget. This is without a doubt one of the most versatile fabrics ever made.
